Army Confirms Agniveer Amritpal Singh’s Tragic Demise by ‘Self-Inflicted Bullet’ at LOC in Rajouri

JAMMU: In a tragic incident near the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district, Agniveer Amritpal Singh, who had recently joined the Indian Army, lost his life due to what has been reported as a ‘self-inflicted bullet.’ The unfortunate event occurred on October 11 at a forward post, where the young soldier was found deceased with a bullet wound.

The revelation was made by the Army’s Jammu-based White Knight Command in a statement, citing the incident as an unfortunate act of self-infliction while Amritpal Singh was on sentry duty in the Rajouri sector. The Army has since initiated a comprehensive inquiry to ascertain further details surrounding the incident.

Agniveer Amritpal Singh’s body was transported to his hometown, where he was given a solemn funeral attended by fellow army personnel, paying their respects to their fallen comrade.

Addressing the circumstances of his death, the Indian Army, following protocol for self-inflicted incidents, refrained from conducting a salute or a military cremation. Expressing deepest condolences to the grieving family, the Army conveyed their heartfelt sympathies in a social media post.

Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann expressed his intent to challenge the central government’s policy regarding this matter. In a social media post, the Chief Minister affirmed that his government would adhere to its own policy, standing by the martyr’s family. According to Punjab’s policy, a financial assistance of Rs 1 crore will be provided to Amritpal Singh’s family, as he is recognized as a martyr of the nation.
