Home Minister Cancels PEC Convocation Appearance

New Delhi: Home Minister Amit Shah has decided not to attend the 53rd convocation of Punjab Engineering College (PEC) as the chief guest, which is scheduled for November 2. Reports indicate that a definitive schedule for his visit to the city for the convocation has not been finalized. Consequently, the honor of presiding over the event as the chief guest will now fall to Banwari Lal Purohit, the Governor of Punjab and Administrator of Chandigarh.

The PEC convocation is a significant event, and there had been much anticipation surrounding the possible participation of Home Minister Amit Shah. The college administration had been eagerly awaiting confirmation from his office regarding his visit to the campus, but due to time constraints, the arrangements couldn’t be made. An official invitation had been extended to the Home Minister for the convocation, but his schedule could not accommodate the event. In light of these circumstances, PEC released the convocation schedule on Monday.

An added highlight of the convocation will be the conferment of an honorary Doctor of Science (D.Sc) degree upon Dr. Somanath, Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO). This accolade recognizes Dr. Somanath’s outstanding contributions to the field of space research and technology.
