Rapper Badshah, Sanjay Dutt Among 40 Celebs Face Legal Action, Here’s Why

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has extended its investigation into the Mahadev online betting app case, encompassing renowned personalities, including rapper Badshah and Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt. This expansion follows the ED’s issuance of notices to several high-profile individuals, such as actors Ranbir Kapoor, Shraddha Kapoor, and comedian Kapil Sharma, as part of the betting case probe. Notably, Badshah and Sanjay Dutt have now found themselves entangled in a legal case for promoting the Indian Premier League (IPL) on another betting app called Fairplay.

According to reports, a First Information Report (FIR) has been registered against the two celebrities. On October 30, rapper Badshah was seen at the Maharashtra Cyber Office in connection with the case.

This latest development revolves around the promotion of the Fairplay app by rapper Badshah. Allegations have surfaced that Fairplay showcased IPL matches without the necessary streaming permissions, raising concerns of digital piracy. Subsequently, Viacom 18 Network filed an FIR against rapper Badshah and 40 other artists who endorsed watching IPL matches on the betting app Fairplay.

With a case of digital piracy now registered, it is expected that summons will be dispatched to other actors involved in the promotion of Fairplay. The Fairplay app has links to the Mahadev app, which is believed to have been orchestrated by Saurabh Chandrakar and Ravi Uppal. The ED’s ongoing investigation into money laundering related to the Mahadev app has led to the summoning of several celebrities, including Ranbir Kapoor, Huma Qureshi, Kapil Sharma, and Shraddha Kapoor, as part of the widening probe.
