SGPC organizes Congregation to commemorate martyrs of Nov 1984 Sikh Genocide

Amritsar: To commemorate the martyrs of the Sikh Genocide in November 1984 in different cities of the country and Delhi, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) today organized a congregation and held bhog (concluding ceremony) of Akhand Path Sahib (uninterrupted recitation of Guru Granth Sahib) at Gurdwara Jhand Bunga Sahib situated inside Sri Darbar Sahib complex.

On this occasion, Gurbani Kirtan was performed by hazuri raagi jatha of Bhai Navneet Singh of Sri Harmandir Sahib. Ardas (Sikh prayer) was offered by Bhai Gurcharan Singh and the holy hukamnama (edict) was recited by Giani Rajdeep Singh, Granthi of Sri Harmandir Sahib.

On this occasion, Giani Rajdeep Singh paid tribute to the martyrs of November 1984 and called the massacre of Sikhs as big attack on the community. He said that whenever there was a need in the country, the Sikh community made the most sacrifices. But the Sikhs were always made to feel alienated within the country. He said that the tragedy of November 1984 was extremely painful, which the community can never forget.

Meanwhile, SGPC General Secretary Bhai Gurcharan Singh Grewal said that in November 1984, Sikhs were massacred in various states of the country, including Delhi, at the behest of the then Congress government. He said that it was a heinous act, the stigma of which will always remain on the forehead of the Congress party. He also severely criticized Congress Punjab president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring’s statement of attempting to innocence of Congress leader Kamal Nath in the case of the Sikh massacre.

Present on this occasion included SGPC additional secretary Kulwinder Singh Ramdas, Balwinder Singh Kahlwan, manager of Sri Darbar Sahib Bhagwant Singh Dhangera, assistant secretary Gurdial Singh, Gurcharan Singh Kuhala, Manjit Singh Talwandi, superintendent Nishan Singh, in-charge Malkit Singh Beharwal, Palwinder Singh, manager Harpreet Singh, Jaspal Singh Dhade and Sangat.

Even after 39 years, justice of Sikh Genocide not given: Harjinder Singh Dhami

Even after the passage of 39 years, the scars of the Sikh Genocide by the then Congress government in November 1984 in different places of the country, including Delhi, are painful and the Sikh community has not received justice. SGPC President Harjinder Singh Dhami said this in a statement released here. He said that in November 1984, the fury was unleashed on the Sikhs for several days at the behest of the government, which shook every sensitive person in the world to the core. This was a cruel act against humanity done on the government’s behalf, from which Congress can never be acquitted. He said that the Congress party is protecting the culprits of the Sikh massacre by giving them high positions. He also termed the statement of Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring that Kamal Nath had no role in the Delhi Sikh massacre as salt on the wounds of the Sikhs. He said that with Raja Warring’s statement, the anti-Sikh face of Congress leaders has come to the fore once again.
