Amritsar —Sikh thinker Prof. Sarchand Singh Khayala has described the controversy in the name of logic by some people associated with the leftist ideology in the context of the ongoing story of Manzi Sahib Diwan of Sachkhand Shri Harmandir Sahib as extremely unfortunate and sad. He said that panthak preachers, writers and thinkers — irrespective of their ideology — should maintain faith in Gurmat ki Roshni mein Shraddha, and not create disputes as “but-but”.Prof. Khayala said that it is unfair to target the discourse given by Gurudwara Amb Sahib Mohali Head Granthi Gnani Charanjit Singh on the stories related to Guru Sahib’s childhood activities at Manji Sahib Diwan Hall on the occasion of Shri Guru Nanak Dev ji’s Prakash Parv by the famous left-wing writer Wariam Singh Sandhu in the name of “scientific logic”.
He said that under the Facebook post of Sandhu, spewing venom against religious traditions and sentiments under the guise of “intellectualism” by many people belonging to left-wing ideology is actually an act that offends faith and respect for religious values. It is surprising that left-wing libertarians around the world are at the forefront of calling those who hold religious beliefs bigoted and superstitious.
Prof. Khayala said that ancient sites like “Gurdwara Bal Leela Sahib” related to Guru Nanak Sahib’s Bal Leelas and many historical sources testify that these stories are not merely symbolic or imaginary, but concrete and authentic — and there is nothing anti-scientific about them. “Kautak” means not only miracles, but also destruction of ignorance.
He said that those who call Guru Nanak Sahib rational should understand that logic does not mean denial of spiritual experiences. The purpose of reasoning is to lead to truth, not to shake the foundations of faith and belief.
Today, there is a growing tendency among many intellectual classes that they make scriptures the subject of intellectual exercise without understanding the spiritual depth of Gurubani. Science explores matter, while religion is the realm of mind and soul.
Prof. Khayla said that some so-called scholars, intoxicated with scientific reasoning, suffer from the thorn of “houmai” — who, despite being spiritually empty, are trying to cover spirituality with their intellectual brilliance.
He said, “If someone is swayed by any religion, then rationally attack his faith and faith — that will itself be destroyed. The root of religion is faith, and if faith is not there, then there is nothing left in religion.”
Prof. Khayla said that faith, faith and miracles are the foundation of every religion. Religion is not usually a matter of science, but Sikhism meets the criteria of modern epistemology — and it is also a matter of faith.
He said that some intellectuals are conspiring against the spirit of Gurubani by distorting its meaning — an attempt to destroy the spiritual essence of Sikhism. A person who does not have faith in Guru Sahib and Gurubani may pretend to be a Sikh, but cannot be a “real Sikh” in the real sense.
