Former Punjab minister and MLA Pargat Singh extended a warm welcome to a visiting delegation of Canadian Members of Parliament during their tour of Punjab. The delegation included Jasraj Singh Hallan, Conservative MP and Shadow Minister of Finance; Amanpreet Singh Gill; and Dalwinder Singh Gill, all of whom arrived to strengthen engagement with Punjab’s political and social stakeholders.
During the meeting, the leaders discussed the evolving relationship between Punjab and Canada. The conversations touched upon shared concerns, global trends, and the growing importance of cross-border cooperation between the Punjabi diaspora and the state of Punjab. Special emphasis was placed on the challenges faced by Punjabi students and workers in Canada, particularly in the wake of stricter immigration policies and evolving administrative procedures.
Pargat Singh highlighted that thousands of Punjabi youths aspire to study, work, and build a future in Canada, but many are facing uncertainty due to policy shifts and delays in immigration pathways. The visiting MPs acknowledged these concerns and assured that they would continue raising issues affecting the community at appropriate forums to ensure fair treatment and smoother processes.
Both sides agreed that continuous dialogue, deeper collaboration, and transparent communication remain essential for resolving the concerns of the Punjabi diaspora and further strengthening the historic bond between Punjab and Canada. The meeting concluded on a positive note, with a shared commitment to work together for mutual benefit and community welfare.
