Amritsar MLA Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh raised the issue of the waste dump in Ranjit Avenue and adjoining residential localities in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha, seeking the government’s attention to the problem affecting the area. According to information shared by the legislator on social media, he submitted a Call Attention Notice on March 25, 2025, highlighting the seriousness of the issue.
In his post, titled “My Report Card — Our Work Speaks” (Series 39), Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh identified several localities that he said needed attention in connection with the Ranjit Avenue dump issue. These included C-Block, D-Block and E-Block of Ranjit Avenue, Sector 3, Sector 4, Kiran Colony, Housing Board Colony, Chand Avenue and Suraj Avenue.
By naming these residential areas, the MLA sought to bring the matter before the state government and highlight the concerns associated with waste management in a densely populated part of Amritsar. The issue relates to urban sanitation, proper waste disposal and the responsibility of civic authorities to maintain a clean and healthy living environment.
Waste dumps located near residential neighbourhoods can become a source of concern for residents if garbage is not collected and disposed of regularly. Effective management requires timely waste collection, proper disposal arrangements, routine sanitation and a mechanism for residents to report complaints and obtain responses from the authorities.
The Call Attention Notice provided a legislative avenue for bringing the matter to the government’s attention. However, the actual impact of raising the issue depends on the response of the concerned department, the steps taken by the municipal authorities and whether residents receive a lasting solution.
Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh shared the development as part of his ongoing report-card series, presenting the raising of the issue in the Assembly as an account of his legislative work.
The next important question is what action followed the notice. Details of the government’s response, any official directions issued to the concerned authorities and the present status of the dump would help establish whether the concerns highlighted in the Assembly have been addressed.
The Ranjit Avenue waste-dump issue underlines the importance of accountability in urban governance. Residents need more than assurances or the raising of issues in the Assembly; they need effective waste management, transparent follow-up and a sustainable solution to problems affecting their neighbourhoods.
Note: This report is based on the information shared by Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh. The government’s response and the current status of the waste-dump issue have not been independently verified.
