A shooting inside a high-rise office tower at 345 Park Avenue left four people dead

A shooting inside a high-rise office tower at 345 Park Avenue left four people dead on Monday evening, including a New York City police officer. The alleged gunman, identified as 27-year-old Shane Tamura of Las Vegas, was also found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, authorities confirmed.
The incident unfolded just after 6:30 p.m. in one of Manhattan’s busiest commercial corridors, steps from Grand Central Terminal and Rockefeller Center. According to NYPD officials, Tamura, who was reportedly wearing body armor and armed with an AR-style rifle, opened fire in the building’s lobby. He then made his way to the upper floors, prompting a building-wide lockdown and a massive police response.
Investigators say Tamura was licensed to carry a concealed firearm and previously held a private investigator license, although it had expired. His motive remains unclear.
At least six people were shot during the incident, including the NYPD officer who was killed in the initial exchange of gunfire in the lobby. Officers responded swiftly, deploying drones and tactical teams around the 33-storey tower, which houses major firms including Blackstone, KPMG, and Deutsche Bank. The NFL’s headquarters is also located in the building.
Authorities believe the shooter may have barricaded himself on the 32nd floor. Calls to 911 were received from both the 32nd and 33rd floors before Tamura was located dead. Police Commissioner Jessica Disch confirmed the situation had been “contained” and there was no ongoing threat to the public.
Mayor Eric Adams expressed condolences to the fallen officer’s family, stating on social media, “A brave NYPD officer was struck down while protecting our city. Our hearts are with his loved ones.”
The New York Post cited unnamed police sources saying the suspect was heavily armed and possibly targeting individuals within the tower, though that remains under investigation.
This marks the 254th mass shooting in the United States in 2025, according to the Gun Violence Archive, which defines such incidents as those involving four or more people shot. The event has once again ignited debate over gun laws and safety in urban office environments.
As of Tuesday morning, the identities of the other victims have not been released, and investigators are continuing to process the scene. The NYPD has urged witnesses or anyone with relevant information to come forward
