Tarn Taran – Ravinder Singh Brahmpura, Vice President of the Shiromani Akali Dal and former MLA for Khadoor Sahib, has condemned the recent deaths of two youths in police custody in Abohar, labeling the incident a “pre-meditated conspiracy” and a “fake police encounter.” His remarks come in light of the swift accolades given to the police by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, which he argues raises further suspicion about the circumstances surrounding the event.“The newly registered FIR stands as a mockery of justice,” Brahmpura stated. “How can we believe a narrative where the police claim that two youths under their custody were shot dead by their own accomplices, who purportedly escaped through dense foliage while numerous police personnel were reportedly present? This story defies logic.”
Brahmpura criticized AAP leaders, particularly Punjab Legislative Assembly Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan, for their premature commendations of the police’s actions before an investigation had even begun. “What could be more disgraceful than seeing AAP ministers Aman Arora and Laljit Singh Bhullar seeking social media applause for what they call police bravery before the facts have been established? Even the Speaker, whose role should demand objectivity, praised a supposed police ‘accomplishment’ during a special Assembly session. This behavior exemplifies a government more interested in political gain than in maintaining constitutional integrity.”
He added, “Punjab has endured a grim chapter marked by egregious fake encounters and has emerged from that turbulent period through immense struggle. Yet, the AAP government, seeking to divert attention from its failures—especially concerning a deteriorating law and order situation—seems intent on dragging Punjab back into those dark times. Over the last seven months, there have been over 19 suspicious encounters, indicating a systematic policy of oppression.”
Brahmpura expressed deep sympathy for the affected families, who claim their sons were taken from their homes only to be killed, while police narratives seem to shift daily. “The true culprits and masterminds operate from behind bars, while the government seeks to bolster its image by targeting minor players in this tragic saga,” he asserted.
The Shiromani Akali Dal stands firm in its commitment to resist what it terms as “jungle raj.” Brahmpura demanded an impartial judicial inquiry into the incident, to be overseen by a sitting judge of the Hon’ble High Court, to ensure a full accounting of the truth and hold accountable those guilty, both within the police hierarchy and their political allies. “We will fight diligently at every level to protect the rights and interests of the people of Punjab,” he affirmed
