Baba Banda Singh Bahadur, whose childhood name was Lachhman Dev Born in Rajouri village of Poonch -Rup Kaur

 Biography of Banda Singh Bahadur

Once, while hunting, he shot a pregnant deer with an arrow; when the deer’s stomach was torn open, the children came out of it and died in agony. This incident had a great impact on Lachhman Dev’s mind. In those days, Janki Das, a disciple of Sadhu Jait Ram, came to Rajouri; Lachhman Dev became his disciple and he named him Madho Das Bairagi, some historians believe that he had named him Narayan; later, Sadhu Ram Das named him Madho Das |All these sadhus used to believe in Baba Ram Thaman |Every year, Baisakhi fairs were held at the camp of Baba Ram Thaman in Kalukhara village near Kasur.

Now the question arises: who was this Ram Thaman whom Janaki Das and Jait Ram considered as their Guru? Baba Ram Thaman was the son of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s maternal aunt, Lakho.
Giani Gian Singh Ji has written about this in his book Tawarikh Guru Khalsa Patshahi Pehli that Guru Nanak Dev Ji was not like other children in his childhood. He neither played with children nor did mischief. He used to sit in solitude and remember God. He used to distribute whatever he got from home among the needy. Once, seeing Guru Nanak Dev Ji doing this, maternal aunt Lakho said to Mata Tripta Ji, Tripta, your son seems crazy because he distributes the things of the house to people outside. Guru Ji then said, ” Maternal aunt, your son will be even crazier than me. But great saints and saints will accept him. Madhodas Bairagi stayed here at Ram Thaman’s camp for a long time. Vaisakhi and sadhus gathered in Ram Thaman’s camp; discussions took place among themselves. Here, a sadhu, Ram Das, who came from Nashik, defeated Janaki Das in a discussion. Now Madhodas became Ram Das’s disciple.

Now, who is this Ram Das?

Ram Das is Chhatrapati Shivaji, the Rajguru of the Marathas.Ramdas had earlier met Guru Hargobind Sahib in Srinagar, Uttarakhand and asked him why he had taken up arms. Guru Sahib had said that to fight oppression, when the oppressor does not improve by remaining silent and peaceful, then he has to take up arms. This is the teaching that Ramdas had given to Chhatrapati Shivaji.
Now Ram Das was also well acquainted with Sikhism and so was Janaki Das because he was the disciple of Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s maternal aunt’s son.It was natural for Madhodas to know about Sikhism because both his Gurus knew about Sikhism. From here, Madhodas went to the place of Panchvati in Nashik with Sadhu Ramdas and started doing penance there.
This Panchvati in Nashik was the same place where the cremation of Maharani Jinda was later brought from England.

Now here, Madhodas Bairagi met Jogi Aughar Nath, by serving whom Madhodas attained many great virtues. When Jogi Aughar Nath passed away, Madhodas would walk along the banks of the Godavari, reach the place of Nanded, see a beautiful place there and make his camp on the banks of the Godavari river.Where on this day, on 3 September 1708, Guru Gobind Singh Ji reached the camp of Madhodas and later made him a disciple of the Guru by giving him Amrit.
