Brahmpura Demands Justice for Sikh Aspirant Barred Over Kirpan; Urges Rajasthan CM and High Court to Act Swiftly

Tarn Taran- Shiromani Akali Dal Vice President and former MLA from Khadoor Sahib, Ravinder Singh Brahmpura, has strongly protested the denial of entry to Gurpreet Kaur, a Sikh candidate, at the Civil Judge examination in Jaipur over her constitutional right to wear a Kirpan.
Terming the incident a blatant violation of Article 25 of the Indian Constitution, Brahmpura issued separate letters to Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma and the Honourable Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court, condemning the act as not just discriminatory but emblematic of a larger administrative apathy towards Sikh religious identity.
“This is not an isolated mistake—it is a deliberate echo of a deep-set bias,” Brahmpura asserted, referencing a similar incident from the previous year that was never properly rectified. “When rights guaranteed by the Constitution are repeatedly denied, silence is not a choice; resistance is a duty,” he added.
Brahmpura called for immediate and firm disciplinary action against officials at Poornima University’s examination centre responsible for the incident. He also demanded a special re-examination opportunity be granted to Gurpreet Kaur and urged the issuance of clear standardized guidelines to protect religious freedom during all state-conducted examinations.
Appealing to the Rajasthan High Court for urgent intervention, Brahmpura requested suo motu cognizance of the matter to safeguard constitutional guarantees and ensure justice is served without delay.
“The injustice done to the Gursikh daughter of Khadoor Sahib resonates far beyond a single examination hall—it strikes at the conscience of the nation. The Shiromani Akali Dal will not rest until Gurpreet Kaur receives the justice she rightfully deserves,” he affirmed
