Double-Engine Government is the Only Permanent Solution to the Challenges Facing Punjab: Prof.Khiala

Amritsar-Punjab BJP Spokesperson Prof. Sarchand Singh Khiala said that Punjab is currently
grappling with several grave challenges—law and order collapse, economic crisis,
unemployment, drug trafficking, gangster networks, border-security threats and
industrial flight.
Along with these internal failures, external forces and Pakistan-backed networks are
actively funding and luring anti-social elements to destabilize Punjab. The recent
daylight target killing of RSS worker Naveen Arora in Ferozepur is part of a larger
conspiracy aimed at disturbing Hindu–Sikh harmony in Punjab.
Prof. Khiala said that such challenges can only be addressed when the Centre and the
State work as a single team—meaning Punjab must have a double-engine
government.
He asserted that although the BJP has expanded in Punjab since 2022, it is still
insufficient for forming a government independently. Given the current political scenario,
the possibility of BJP forming a government on its own in 2027 is extremely limited.
A real political change in Punjab in 2027 is possible only if the BJP re-aligns with a
strong regional Panthic party. This requires serious introspection and strategic planning.
The recent Tarn Taran by-poll results clearly show that Punjab’s politics has reached a
decisive turning point. The people of Punjab now want change. After giving a sweeping
mandate to AAP in 2022, its failures across every sector have deeply disappointed the
public.
Prof. Khiala said that the historic 1997 Akali–BJP alliance was not merely an electoral
arrangement but a visionary, long-term partnership based on Hindu–Sikh unity, mutual
trust and Punjab’s stability. Today, this vision is even more relevant and necessary.
Only such an ideological alliance can protect Punjab’s shared heritage, social harmony
and collective consciousness.
During the Akali–BJP era, Punjab witnessed unprecedented growth in infrastructure,
rural-urban development, electricity, roads, education, health and industrial
investment—progress unmatched by any government that followed. Neither the
Congress nor the present AAP government has contributed meaningfully to Punjab’s
development; instead, the state has entered a phase of stagnation.
The present AAP government exists only in advertisements, while on the ground the
situation is completely opposite. Cities are suffering due to collapsing water and
sewerage systems, waste mismanagement, administrative disorder and the
deteriorating condition of schools and hospitals.
Punjab needs a double-engine government also because it accelerates the approval
and funding of development projects—highways, roads, airports, and health-education
initiatives receive immediate support from the Centre.

A strong crackdown on drugs and gangster syndicates is possible only through
coordinated operations of central agencies such as NIA, NCB and ED with the state
police.
For border security too, unified efforts of the Centre and State are essential due to rising
drone infiltration, weapons smuggling and narcotics movement across the international
border.
Law and order, industrial revival and employment generation require strong political
stability and close coordination with the Centre—something only the double-engine
model can guarantee.
Punjab’s worsening economy needs special central packages, grants and financial
assistance, which become easier under this model.
Agriculture reforms—MSP, crop insurance, technological advancements and
subsidies—can be implemented effectively only when the Centre and State work jointly.
Even in tackling corruption, the double-engine framework is the most effective because
it enhances accountability and strengthens oversight mechanisms.
In short—from law and order to economic recovery—the double-engine model is the
most suitable and essential framework for a sensitive border state like Punjab.
