MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla

Amritsar: Congress MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla has urged the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to take immediate steps to improve public safety at the historic Ram Bagh in Amritsar by installing solar-powered lights and CCTV cameras.

In a communication to the ASI, Aujla stressed the need to protect residents, senior citizens, women and children visiting the heritage site. He called for priority action to ensure better lighting, surveillance and a safer environment for visitors.

Ram Bagh is an important historical landmark in Amritsar, and maintaining its heritage value alongside public safety remains a key concern. Adequate lighting could help improve visibility during evening hours, while CCTV cameras could assist in monitoring public areas and addressing security concerns.

Aujla’s intervention highlights the need for responsible management of historic public spaces, where heritage conservation must go hand in hand with the safety and convenience of visitors. The effectiveness of the proposed measures will depend on their timely implementation, proper maintenance and regular monitoring by the concerned authorities.

The ASI’s response and any implementation timeline were not included in the statement shared by Aujla.
