CHANDIGARH: Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring today said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has done nothing for Punjab during his 12-year tenure, except for the periodic lip service during his electoral visits to the state. Reacting to the Prime Minister’s visit to the state, Warring noted, it is more than obvious that he is here with an eye on the ensuing elections to the state assembly. He observed that the Prime Minister had nothing to offer the state except to repeat past promises he has no intention of fulfilling. The PCC President told the Prime Minister to stop polarising people. He said, even today’s Prime Minister’s visit was being projected with a particular motive and agenda, and it was not going to work in Punjab.
Punjab, he said, needs economic and agricultural reconstruction for which the PM did not seem to have anything to offer. He said, if the Prime Minister was sincere he would have fulfilled the promises made to farmers of waiving off the loans and MSP guarantee for various crops. The PCC president pointed out that Modi has been the Prime Minister for 12 years. Despite claiming long association with the state, he did not provide anything to the state all these years.
“Is it a condition and is it compulsory that it should be a BJP government in the state and only then your government at the centre will provide the state its rightful due”, he asked the Prime Minister, adding, in that case Punjab must not expect anything from Mr Modi as the BJP government will never be formed in Punjab.
“Your government has been continuously discriminating against Punjab since 2017. It is a blackmail that you vote for us only then will we provide you your rightful due”, he told the Prime Minister.
Warring said, Punjab has collected enough promises over the years. “A legal guarantee for MSP, revival of industry, jobs for our youth, a special package for border districts, support for farmers and decisive action against the drug menace would be a good start”, he suggested adding, “Punjab has never been short on sacrifice. It shouldn’t have to keep waiting for its due. Punjab doesn’t need another headline tomorrow—it needs something worth remembering after you leave”.
