OAK celebrates Valentine’s Day with free love letters and festive decor

Oakland, Calif. – Love is in the air at Oakland San Francisco Bay Airport (OAK) this Valentine’s season. In partnership with Southwest Airlines, OAK is inviting travellers to share the love through a special free Valentine’s Day love letter activation designed to bring heartfelt moments to the airport experience. This is the second year that OAK and Southwest have offered this Valentine’s service at the airport, and over 700 letters were mailed by travellers last year.

From Monday, February 9, through Wednesday, February 11, passengers travelling through OAK will have the opportunity to use pre-made OAK-themed postcards to write love letters at Valentine-themed drop boxes located at select gates. Letters collected during these three days will be mailed (at no cost to passengers) in time to arrive by Valentine’s Day (Saturday, February 14), offering travellers a meaningful way to connect with loved ones near and far.

“OAK is proud to create memorable experiences that make travel more enjoyable,” said Port of Oakland Director of Aviation Craig Simon. “From writing love letters to sharing heartfelt moments, these Valentine’s Day activities reflect our commitment to caring for our passengers and celebrating moments that matter.”

To add to the festive spirit, Southwest Airlines gate areas at OAK will be decorated with Valentine’s Day décor, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere for travellers throughout the holiday week.

The celebration continues on Saturday, February 14, when OAK’s popular Canine Comfort program, in partnership with Valley Humane Society, will bring pet therapy dogs to the airport. The Canine Comfort team will be available to greet passengers, offering cuddles, smiles, and stress relief for travellers from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Valentine’s Day.

Passengers are encouraged to participate and share their Valentine’s Day airport moments on social media by tagging OAK or #iflyoak.
