Birmingham Edgbaston- Our social care system is under immense pressure. This was disclosed here by Minister Preet Kaur Gill in a weekly letter issued to her audience. She said that too many carers are struggling, families are facing increasing challenges, and delays in care are placing additional strain on our NHS. I believe we must face these challenges head-on and work together to deliver the reforms people deserve.
She further said that is why the Prime Minister has asked Baroness Louise Casey to bring forward her work on creating a National Care Service, with recommendations now due by summer 2027. This work will be independent and shaped by public and cross-party support, helping to build a system that provides dignity, security and high-quality care. Importantly, any future reforms will be fully funded and will not rely on borrowing.
She said that the newly launched Big Conversation on Care will give people the opportunity to share their experiences and help shape the future of adult social care. I encourage residents across Birmingham Edgbaston to take part and ensure their voices are heard.
Alongside this, the Government is making available an additional £4.6 billion for adult social care by 2028/29, introducing the first-ever Fair Pay Agreement for care staff, and improving support for unpaid carers. These measures will help strengthen local care services, support families, improve conditions for care workers, and reduce pressure on NHS services, delivering real benefits for people across Birmingham Edgbaston.
