Heavy Rainfall Sweeps Across Punjab and Himachal Pradesh, Triggering Alerts
Chandigarh: A Refreshing Respite from the scorching heat has arrived for many districts of Punjab, accompanied by heavy rainfall that, while providing relief, raises concerns about potential water level surges in various regions. The Meteorological Department’s warning of heavy rain for the upcoming three days in numerous districts of Punjab underscores the need for heightened caution.
According to the data released by the Meteorological Center in Chandigarh, an alert has been issued for substantial rainfall in 12-13 districts of Punjab from August 23 to 25. During this period, wind speeds may reach up to 40 km per hour, amplifying the effects of the heavy downpour. The water levels in the Sutlej river have already seen an increase, sparking apprehensions of further escalation due to the anticipated torrential rain. In Haryana, including the Chandigarh-Panchkula region, is experiencing continuous heavy rainfall, leading to flooded roads and disrupted travel routes.
The Meteorological Department has elevated the alert status to orange for August 23-24. The regions under scrutiny include Solan, Shimla, Sirmour, Hamirpur, Una, Mandi, Kangra, Chamba, Kullu, Kinnaur, and Lahaul Spiti. With heavy rain anticipated over the next hours, authorities are advising citizens to refrain from venturing near rivers and landslide-prone areas. This advisory reflects concerns about potential cloudburst incidents in select locales.
