Intellectuals urge SAD to initiate all-party initiative on SYL and Punjab interests


Chandigarh: Leading intellectuals, writers and academicians from across Punjab today urged Shiromani Akali Dal to take the lead for an all party initiative for evolving a joint strategy on safeguarding the interests of Punjab on river waters, SYL and other major issues facing Punjab

A resolution to this effect was passed at a special 4-hour interactive session which the scholars , writers and academicians had with Sardar Sukhbir Singh Badal, the president of the Shiromani Akali Dal here today.

The resolution said that the political parties especially the Panthic regional party the SAD was duty bound to lead the battle for the interests of the state.

The participants in the session opposed the event-management approach to serious issues facing Punjab and Punjab is as well as attempts for causing divisions and confusion among the people of the state through divisive debates aimed at mutual mudslinging.

Those who took part in the interactive session were included Dr Sucha Singh Gill, Prof Ranjit Singh Ghuman, Dr Kehar Singh, Dr Balkar Singh, Dr Pyare Lal Garg, Prof Raunki Ram, Dr Dharamvir Gandhi, S. Gurdev Singh Brar,

Dr Gurdarshan Singh Dhillon, Prof Manjit Singh and Dr Dharminder Singh Ubha, Prof Prem Singh Chandumajra, Balwinder Singh Bhundur, Bikram Singh Majithia, Maheshinder Singh Grewal, Dr Daljit Singh Cheema and Virsa Singh Valtoha.
