Tarn Taran – Witnessing the widespread devastation caused by floods and the complete failure of the government system in Khadoor Sahib constituency, Shiromani Akali Dal Vice President and former MLA and constituency in-charge, Ravinder Singh Brahmpura, took matters into his own hands. He not only challenged the dormant Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government but also personally provided ₹50,000 in cash from his own pocket to restart stalled relief operations.
Today, while assessing a 100-foot wide breach in the Beas River near Mundapind village, Brahmpura observed that work had come to a halt due to the administration’s absence. He immediately provided ₹50,000 in cash for diesel to operate machinery. During his visit, he also toured Dhunda and Bhail villages, situated along the Beas River, to listen to the difficulties faced by flood-affected farmers. It is noteworthy that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s government has not yet addressed the plight of the victims nor shown any concrete action on the ground.
Becoming emotional on the occasion, Brahmpura stated, “These are my own people, my family. How can I abandon them like this? When people’s lives are at stake, the hollow claims of governments become meaningless. I consider this ₹50,000 aid not a favor, but my duty, and I assure you that this is just the beginning; I will continue to provide all possible assistance.”
Condemning the AAP government, Brahmpura recalled the performance of previous Shiromani Akali Dal governments, particularly that of late Chief Minister Sardar Parkash Singh Badal and his father Ranjit Singh Brahmpura, who long represented this area as Member of Parliament and Cabinet Minister. He said, “During our time, in any natural disaster, ‘gurdawaris’ (on-site assessments) were conducted, and farmers were given maximum possible compensation. But today, this failed government and its incompetent administration have left the people to die, which is utterly reprehensible.”
He issued a warning to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to step out of his AC rooms and attend to the people. He demanded that the work of repairing the embankment be started on a war footing, NDRF teams be deployed, and compensation of ₹50,000 per acre be announced without any delay. Brahmpura’s initiative is being widely praised by the local people, who say that such leaders are the true sympathizers of the people in times of distress, while the AAP government is shirking its responsibilities.
Present on the occasion were senior SAD leader Kuldeep Singh Aulakh (Vice President, Kuldeep Singh Lahoria (General Secretary, Youth Akali Dal), Jagtar Singh, Balkar Singh, Baba Lakha Singh, Pehelwan Swaran Singh, Aman Dhoonda, Sahib Singh, Bhagwant Singh, Sardool Singh, Sandeep Singh Jhander Mahapurkhan, Hardeep Singh Khakh, and many other Akali workers and farmers.
