NAPA Urges SGPC to Review Rising Global Attacks on Sikhs

North American Punjabi Association (NAPA) has expressed grave concern over the disturbing rise in racially motivated attacks on Sikhs across the world in recent days. Within a matter of days, three shocking incidents have taken place: an elderly Sikh professor, recently retired, was attacked in Los Angeles; two elderly Sikh men were brutally assaulted in Wolverhampton, UK; and an NRI Sikh couple was attacked in Madhya Pradesh, India, leaving their children injured.

Executive Director of NAPA, Satnam Singh Chahal, said these are not isolated events but part of a growing pattern of hatred and discrimination against Sikhs, which cannot be ignored. “Historically, Sikhs have always stood for justice, equality, and humanity. From the martyrdom of our Gurus to the sacrifices made in India’s freedom struggle, to the community service Sikhs render globally through langar and humanitarian aid, our people have always given to the world. Then what is the mistake of Sikhs? Why are we continuously subjected to violence and racism, even in the 21st century?” Chahal asked.

NAPA has written to the President of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), urging the apex Sikh body to immediately review the global situation and take a firm stand to protect Sikh dignity worldwide. “This is the time for the SGPC to raise a strong voice before the Governments of India, the United States, the United Kingdom, and international human rights organizations,” Chahal said. “Justice must be delivered to victims, and long-term measures must be implemented to ensure the safety of Sikhs across the globe.”

Chahal further emphasised that governments and law enforcement agencies worldwide have failed to provide adequate protection to minorities from prejudice and hate crimes. “The Sikh identity—our turban, unshorn hair, and distinct appearance—is not a reason for hatred but a mark of faith, discipline, and service to humanity. Yet we are attacked for the very symbols of our religion. The SGPC’s proactive intervention is crucial to stop this rising tide of violence,” he added.

NAPA reaffirmed its commitment to continue raising these issues at every platform and working alongside Sikh institutions for justice and equality.
