London-UK Member of Parliament Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi has expressed gratitude to RAF Wyton for hosting the House of Commons Defence Committee at the headquarters of Defence Intelligence, alongside the Ministry of Defence Police. The visit formed part of the committee’s ongoing efforts to gain first-hand insight into the United Kingdom’s defence and intelligence framework.
During the visit, MP Dhesi highlighted the importance of parliamentary oversight in matters of national security. He noted that as elected representatives, members of the Defence Committee have a responsibility to hold the Government to account while also supporting the vital work carried out by defence and intelligence personnel to keep the country safe.
RAF Wyton plays a central role in the UK’s defence infrastructure, serving as a hub for Defence Intelligence operations. By engaging directly with those working on the front lines of intelligence and security, the Defence Committee aims to develop a clearer and more informed understanding of how Britain’s defence systems operate and the challenges they face in an evolving global security environment.
Emphasising transparency and informed decision-making, Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi said it is crucial for policymakers to have a clear picture of the UK’s defence and intelligence capabilities. Such visits, he underscored, strengthen democratic oversight and ensure that policies and resources are aligned with the realities faced by those tasked with protecting the nation.
The visit to RAF Wyton reflects the Defence Committee’s broader commitment to rigorous scrutiny, constructive engagement with defence institutions, and ensuring that the UK’s security infrastructure remains robust, accountable, and fit for purpose in the face of emerging threats.
