Mohali: Senior Congress leader and former Punjab Health Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu has demanded that the Punjab Election Commission immediately register a case against independent candidate Paramjit Singh Kahlon, who is contesting from Ward No. 10 in Mohali, and his associates under charges related to storing illegal liquor to influence voters, threatening opponents with weapons, and cheating, and take strict legal action against them without delay.
While addressing a protest staged at the spot along with Congress workers and local residents seeking justice and immediate action, Mr. Sidhu said that Congress Party candidate from Ward No. 10, Kanwarbir Singh Sidhu, caught people red-handed unloading a large quantity of liquor cartons at House No. 2590 in Phase 7 belonging to Paramjit Singh Kahlon, who is allegedly contesting as an independent candidate with the backing and support of the government. He said the liquor cartons were being unloaded from a black Scorpio vehicle bearing registration number PB 65 BJ 9908. He further alleged that the vehicle belongs to Police Inspector Balwinder Singh and that a police inspector’s uniform, sharp-edged weapons, and a large quantity of liquor were found inside it. He also shared certain photographs, video clips, and CCTV footage from nearby houses regarding the incident.
The Congress leader further stated that when Congress candidate Kanwarbir Singh Sidhu tried to stop the individuals unloading the liquor cartons from carrying out this illegal activity, the driver of the vehicle allegedly threatened him by gesturing towards a pistol kept in his jeans pocket and claimed that they were police personnel and nobody could harm them. He added that, fearing the Congress workers and local residents who had gathered at the spot, the individuals unloading the liquor cartons into Paramjit Singh Kahlon’s house fled the scene. However, one individual was apprehended and handed over to the police.
Mr. Sidhu said that the protesters raised slogans against the administration and accused the police of shielding the accused persons despite clear evidence.
The former Congress minister said that the Aam Aadmi Party, rattled by its clear and visible defeat, has resorted to cheap tactics. He alleged that the Aam Aadmi Party now wants to win the Municipal Corporation election, especially in Ward No. 10, by misleading people through liquor and cash distribution. He further claimed that the Aam Aadmi Party has fielded Paramjit Singh Kahlon in this ward to divide Congress votes and help its own candidate win, which is why the entire administration, especially the police department, is allegedly helping him in every possible manner.
Mr. Sidhu appealed to the voters of Ward No. 10 to cast every single vote in favour of Congress candidate Kanwarbir Singh Sidhu so that these “malicious tactics” of the Aam Aadmi Party can be defeated.
