Hayes(London)A 24-year-old Sikh woman from Punjab, India, was tragically killed in an alleged stabbing inside her home in Hayes, west London, in an incident that has left her family and the Sikh community in deep shock.Kirandeep Kaur, originally from Piddi village in Tarn Taran district, had moved to the United Kingdom in 2024 on a student visa in pursuit of a better future. According to investigators, she was attacked in her home during the morning of July 12 while she was with her husband and newborn child. She sustained a fatal stab wound and was pronounced dead shortly afterward despite emergency medical efforts.

Police have charged 46-year-old Daniel Sean James with murder. Prosecutors also allege that he stabbed another man in his twenties before the fatal attack. Authorities told the court that both victims were strangers to the accused. The suspect has been remanded into custody, with further court proceedings scheduled later this year and a provisional trial date set for April 2027.

The victim’s family in Punjab said they were devastated upon learning of her death. Her mother said she had believed her daughter was going to the UK to study and build a secure future, adding that the family never imagined such a tragedy could occur. They are now appealing for justice and requesting that Kirandeep Kaur’s body be repatriated to India so she can be laid to rest in her native village according to Sikh traditions.

Her brother described the family’s grief as overwhelming, saying the news came as a complete shock and left them struggling to understand how such a tragedy could happen.

Members of the Sikh community in the United Kingdom have also rallied around the bereaved family. A fundraising campaign has been launched to assist with funeral expenses and the transportation of her remains back to Punjab.
