Amritsar: Senior Congress leader and Jalandhar Cantt MLA Pargat Singh paid obeisance at Sri Darbar Sahib in Amritsar ahead of a meeting of the Punjab Congress Manifesto Committee, saying he prayed for wisdom, sincerity and strength to work for the welfare of Punjab and humanity.
Sharing his message on social media, Pargat Singh said that before participating in the manifesto committee meeting, he sought blessings at Sri Darbar Sahib and prayed for “Sarbat da Bhala”—the welfare of all.
He said the objective should be to shape policies centred on the welfare of humanity and Punjab, while maintaining the sincerity to implement those policies and the courage to take decisions in the larger interest of the state.
The visit comes as Punjab Congress steps up preparations for the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections. The party’s manifesto committee has already begun the process of gathering public and stakeholder inputs for its election document.
Pargat Singh’s emphasis on policy, public welfare and Punjab’s future assumes significance at a time when the Congress is attempting to present itself as an alternative to the Aam Aadmi Party government. Newly appointed Punjab Congress in-charge Sachin Pilot has said the party will contest the 2027 polls under collective leadership rather than projecting a chief ministerial face in advance.
The Congress manifesto exercise is expected to focus on issues affecting different sections of Punjab, with the party indicating that consultations will be held with trade and employee unions, social and economic organisations, civil society groups and other stakeholders.
For Pargat Singh, the message from Amritsar was both spiritual and political: seek blessings, listen to the people, and develop policies that put Punjab’s long-term interests above political considerations.
The manifesto process could provide Congress leaders an opportunity to put forward a concrete vision on Punjab’s economy, employment, agriculture, law and order, education, health, migration, drug abuse and the concerns of Punjabis living abroad.
