Majithia Accuses Punjab Police of Political Bias, Alleges AAP Protection and Opposition Targeting

Amritsae-Senior Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia has launched a sharp attack on the Punjab Police, accusing it of political bias and alleging that the police machinery is being used to protect leaders of the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) while targeting opposition leaders.

In a recent statement posted on social media platform X, Majithia alleged that the police were going to extreme lengths to shield those associated with AAP, while opposition leaders were being subjected to what he described as attempts to falsely implicate them in criminal cases.

Majithia further alleged that the nexus between political interests, the police and the drug mafia had continued to flourish in Punjab, claiming that the state’s law-and-order situation was being pushed into the background. He argued that selective policing and politically motivated action were undermining public confidence in law enforcement institutions.

The Akali leader’s remarks have added to the ongoing political debate over the functioning of Punjab Police, its independence and allegations of misuse of government machinery against political opponents.

The allegations have not been independently verified. The Punjab government and police response to Majithia’s latest accusations was not included in his statement.

The controversy once again raises questions about police accountability, impartial investigations and the need to ensure that law enforcement operates without political pressure, regardless of which party is in power
