GUJRAT: The establishment of a shopping Mall and a hotel as part of Kartarpur Corridor in Narowal have been planned, besides provision of other facilities for the visitors, to promote religious tourism in the region.Gujranwala Commissioner Naveed Haider Sheerazi said this addressing a delegation of under-training officers of the 52nd Common Training Programme (CTP) of the Civil Services Academy, that visited his office on Monday.Mr Sheerazi said the historical sites of Sikh religion were located in various parts of Gujranwala region such as Rohri Sahib (Gujranwala), Chelianwala (Mandi Bahauddin) and Kartarpur (Narowal), recently visited by thousands of pilgrims from allover the world.
He said the government was focusing on providing more facilities to the Sikh yatrees (pilgrims) to promote religious tourism in the region.The commissioner said that at least 993 projects of infrastructure uplift were being executed at the cost of Rs265 billion, while a sum of Rs100 billion would be spent on these projects till June this year.These projects he said also include the establishment of universities in Gujranwala, Sialkot, Hafizabad and Mandi Bahauddin districts.He said Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz had launched at least 83 initiatives in the last one year and weekly progress report was being monitored, adding that the districts of Gujranwala division were working on these initiatives diligently
