Chandigarh-The Bureau of Investigation has issued detailed instructions for police officers handling cases of beadbi (sacrilege or disrespect), providing a specialised vocabulary to ensure sensitivity and accuracy. Director LK Yadav released the guidelines, which include a list of relevant terms along with their meanings. These directives have been circulated to senior police officials across Punjab, including Special Directors General of Police for ANTF, GRP, internal security and cyber crime; Additional Directors General of Police for NRI and AGTF wings; all Range IGPs and DIGs; Police Commissioners; Senior Superintendents of Police; and the Assistant Inspector General of Police at the State Crime Police Station. According to the circular, the guidelines emphasise that investigations must be conducted “with complete sensitivity and impartiality.”
Officers are directed to respect religious sentiments, avoid any action that could cause disrespect, and use precise language when describing incidents of beadbi.
