Chandigarh-Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader and Bathinda MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal has intensified her criticism of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab, accusing the administration of failing to address key issues affecting the people of the state.
Raising concerns over Punjab’s economic situation, agriculture, unemployment, law and order and governance, Harsimrat Badal has alleged that the promises made before the 2022 Assembly elections have not been fulfilled on the ground. She has repeatedly questioned the government’s performance and demanded greater accountability from Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s administration.
One of the major issues highlighted by Harsimrat Badal has been the condition of farmers and Punjab’s rural economy. During visits to affected farming areas, she demanded stronger support for farmers facing crop losses and urged the state government to provide adequate compensation and assistance.
She has also raised concerns about youth employment and the drug crisis in Punjab, arguing that the government needs stronger action and a long-term strategy instead of only making announcements. The SAD leader has further accused the Punjab government of failing to maintain law and order and has raised questions about governance and accountability. The ruling AAP has rejected opposition criticism, stating that it is focused on development, public welfare schemes and improving government services.
Political observers believe that Harsimrat Kaur Badal’s aggressive opposition strategy reflects the SAD’s effort to rebuild its political position before the 2027 Assembly elections. After facing electoral setbacks, the party is attempting to reconnect with voters by highlighting issues such as farmers’ concerns, employment, law and order and Punjab’s economic challenges.
As Punjab’s political environment becomes increasingly active ahead of the next Assembly election, the performance of the AAP government and the ability of opposition parties like SAD to present a credible alternative will remain central issues in the state’s political debate.
