Amritsar North MLA Dr. Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh has been highlighting constituency-level development through a series of “report cards,” focusing on roads, sewerage, street lighting and civic infrastructure. Recent reports say work has been carried out in several areas, including Shivala Kailashpati, Palasa-Gol Bagh and areas around Shri Bhagat Ravidas Ji Mandir. The reported works include construction and repair of roads, cleaning of blocked sewer lines and manholes, and improvements to street lighting.
The MLA has also been pursuing the proposed inclusion of Naushehra Khurd Panchayat within the Amritsar Municipal Corporation, arguing that the area has increasingly acquired an urban character. According to his latest report-card update, the issue requires coordination between the local administration and the state-level government process. The proposal, however, still depends on completion of the required administrative and legal procedures.
Kunwar Vijay Pratap has also raised questions about major infrastructure decisions in Amritsar. In September 2026, he questioned the proposed dismantling of the Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS), particularly the manner in which decisions concerning the project were being taken. He referred to the ₹550 crore funding associated with the project and argued that the government should remain accountable to the public and the Assembly regarding its future.
Earlier, in March 2025, Kunwar claimed that around 90% of development works in his constituency had been completed, while also saying that political differences with the state government had not prevented constituency development. That claim was made during a political debate over the pace of development, and opposing political figures disputed aspects of his assessment.
A record that now needs public scrutiny
The development story of Amritsar North is therefore not simply about political claims but about what has actually been completed on the ground. Roads, sewerage, drainage, streetlights and civic services are issues that residents can directly assess. At the same time, major proposals such as bringing rural panchayats into the municipal corporation and decisions concerning BRTS require longer administrative processes and public accountability.
With the next Punjab Assembly election approaching, Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh’s development report card is likely to receive greater public attention. His constituency record can ultimately be assessed through completed projects, quality of work, expenditure, pending works and the impact on ordinary residents rather than political statements alone.
