MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla Hails Rahul Gandhi for Securing FIR in Student Pellet Injury Case

New Delhi- Congress MP from Amritsar Gurjeet Singh Aujla on Friday praised Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi for ensuring the registration of an FIR in the case of 19-year-old student Sahil Lochav, who suffered serious pellet-gun injuries during last month’s protest in the national capital. In a statement, Aujla said: “Mr Rahul Gandhi ji has once again shown what true leadership means. Standing with student Mr Sahil Lochav and ensuring that his complaint over pellet-gun injuries is finally registered as an FIR is a tremendous step towards justice and accountability. Students deserve justice, not suppression. Proud of your resolve.

”The FIR was registered by Delhi Police on Friday under Sections 118 and 125 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita after Rahul Gandhi staged a day-long dharna outside Parliament Street police station. Gandhi had accompanied Lochav and his mother to demand action on the complaint that had earlier been ignored. Lochav, a Delhi University student, was injured on July 20 during the Cockroach Janta Party’s “Sansad Chalo” march near Jantar Mantar. Medical reports confirmed more than 200 pellets in his body, including three in his right eye, leaving him with a very low chance of full vision recovery. Some pellets near his heart cannot be surgically removed. Gandhi displayed the pellets recovered from Lochav’s body and questioned the police claim that no pellet guns were used. After several hours of the sit-in, which was also joined by Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, the police registered the case against unidentified persons. Aujla’s remarks underline the Congress party’s position that students protesting against examination irregularities must receive justice rather than face force.
