Chants such as “Charanjit Singh Channi zindabad,” “Channi liyao, Punjab bachao,” and “Channi liyao, Congress bachao” disrupted the proceedings, prompting a visibly angered Warring to appeal for discipline and warn of strict action against those responsible. The situation escalated into jostling between rival groups, with reports of chairs being thrown and a physical altercation involving associates of the state president. Similar disorder unfolded later in Sangrur, where pro-Channi slogans, verbal exchanges, and physical confrontations occurred in the presence of both Warring and Baghel.The episode reflects deeper divisions that emerged after the Congress high command’s organisational decisions in early July 2026. While Warring was retained as state unit president, Channi was appointed chairman of the campaign committee for the 2027 elections.
