Satwinder Kaur Launches Re-Election Campaign for Kent City Council

Kent, WA: Kent City Council President Satwinder Kaur announced her campaign Monday for re-election to Position No. 2, highlighting her local roots, years of public service, and strong bipartisan support.First elected in 2017 and re-elected unopposed in 2021, Kaur currently serves as Council President. In her announcement, she pledged to continue focusing on public safety, infrastructure improvements, parks expansion, and community engagement.

“This is because I am passionate about Kent. I want Kent to continue to be a great place to raise a family with safe streets, beautiful parks, thriving businesses, and vibrant community,” Kaur said in a news release.

A lifelong Kent resident and proud Kentridge High School graduate (Class of 2004), Kaur earned an MBA in Technology Management from the University of Washington and works as a Senior Engineer in the tech industry. Her career in public service began as a Council Executive Assistant in the Mayor’s office, and she made history in 2017 as the first Indian-American Sikh elected to the Kent City Council.

Over more than two decades of community involvement, Kaur has mentored youth, served on city boards and commissions, and held leadership roles on nonprofit boards—including the executive board of the Greater Kent Historical Society. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she helped lead recovery efforts, emphasizing public safety and economic resilience. Under her tenure, Kent increased its police force from 105 to 167 officers and expanded community-based policing programs.

Kaur has also built a strong base of support for her re-election bid. She has secured endorsements from Kent Mayor Dana Ralph, all six city councilmembers, Kent Firefighters IAFF 1747, the Kent Education Association, and several regional and state leaders.

Beyond her public service, Kaur remains deeply connected to the community. A PTA mom since 2010, she and her husband, a Boeing engineer, are raising their four children in Kent. As a family, they regularly volunteer in park and street clean-ups, reflecting her hands-on approach to leadership and community building.

From her historic election to her continued commitment to Kent’s future, Satwinder Kaur’s re-election campaign underscores her vision of a safe, thriving, and united city for all residents.
