Mohali-The case of giving expensive land in Daun village to Shyam Builder through Nagar Parishad Kharad has once again created a stir. After the uproar over the matter, the District Development and Panchayat Officer withdrew his recommendations and the Additional Deputy Commissioner (Urban Development) ordered to stop the entire process, but the Kharar City Council passed Resolution No. 16 and transferred this land in favor of Shyam Builder.This whole case has created a political earthquake. Former cabinet minister and ex-MLA from Mohali Balbir Singh Sidhu has called for a vigilance probe calling it a case of serious corruption.
Sidhu said, “Even though the government has now rejected this proposal, it is clear that there was something wrong with this matter from the beginning. The fact that this proposal was first passed by the Gram Panchayat and then immediately by the Nagar Parishad raises questions in itself.”
Questioning the entire process, the former health minister said that on the one hand, the Bhagwant Maan government of Punjab does not get tired of claiming to free hundreds of acres of panchayat land from illegal encroachments, while on the other hand, due to such conspiracies, only the lower level officials are committing scams in the matter of panchayat land. He said that it seems that there is no such thing as government in Punjab, only the lower level officials are getting the courage to do such scams. He said that it is very important to rein in this.
The former health minister said that the big thing is that during his government in 2021, the entire Gram Sabha had passed a clear resolution that the land of Daun would not be given to anyone, so why were steps taken so hastily now? He said that corruption of crores of rupees has taken place through this proposal. He said that it is not enough to just cancel the proposal, if the government is honest, then it should conduct a high-level investigation and bring out the responsible people and those leaders who were behind the scenes scamming this land and strict action should be taken against them. He said that if the government believes in transparency, then this matter should be investigated not only by the Vigilance Department, but also by an independent agency, so that the truth can come out and the people responsible can be punished.
Former Health Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu said that the voters of Daun village and social service organizations also condemned the passing of the land in favor of the builder by Gram Panchayat and Nagar Parishad Khardar without taking the opinion of the people and also gathered outside the Khardar Parishad, but this proposal was passed by Khardar Parishad.
He said that there are allegations of collusion of officials and political forces from Gram Panchayat to Nagar Parishad Kharar in this whole case. It is also being said that the land was forcibly transferred to complete the builder’s project.
He said that now it is to be seen how the Punjab government resolves this matter. Will the matter be over by just canceling the proposal or will the Hon’ble Chief Minister conduct an honest and fair investigation as per his demand?
