London-UK MP Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi has highlighted the growing importance of food security as part of wider national security, sharing his views at a well-attended panel discussion organised by the Eleanor Crook Foundation.
Dhesi said the discussion focused on the central role food security plays in overall security, particularly as climate change and disruptions to food supplies create new challenges for communities around the world. He shared ideas and possible solutions with fellow panellists on tackling climate-related pressures and strengthening food systems.
The Labour MP stressed the need for practical and sustainable approaches to ensure people have reliable access to nutritious food. Addressing hunger and malnutrition, he suggested, requires greater attention to the resilience of food supplies alongside wider efforts to respond to the climate crisis.
The discussion comes amid increasing international concern over the impact of climate change, conflict and fragile supply chains on food availability and affordability. Dhesi’s participation reflects the growing recognition that food security is not simply a humanitarian or agricultural issue, but is closely connected with economic stability, public health and national security.
Dhesi said that overcoming hunger and malnutrition will require cooperation, long-term planning and solutions capable of protecting food supplies in the face of changing environmental and global conditions.
