Sukhbir Badal Appears in Court for Kotkapura Firing Case; Next Hearing on Sept 16

FARIDKOT: Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal made a court appearance on Saturday in connection with the Kotkapura shooting incident related to the Bargari Sacrilege cases. Accused Gurdeep Singh Pandher also attended the court hearing. The next hearing for this case has been scheduled for September 16.

In this ongoing case, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) had submitted a supplementary challan in the court on Monday afternoon. The SIT, headed by ADGP LK Yadav, presented a comprehensive 2500-page supplementary challan. It’s worth noting that the primary challan in this case was submitted by the SIT on February 24, 2024. Subsequently, the first supplementary challan was presented on April 25, followed by the most recent one on August 28.

The Initial charge sheet, comprising 7 thousand pages of evidence, was filed in the Faridkot court on February 24, 2022, pertaining to the Kotkapura shooting incident.

The Accused individuals named in the SIT challan include former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Singh Badal, former DGP Sumedh Singh Saini, former I.G. Paramraj Umranangal, S.S.P. Moga Charanjit Sharma, S.S.P. Faridkot Sukhmandar Mann, DIG Ferozepur Amar Singh Chahal, and the then SHO of Kotakpura City, Gurdeep Singh.

Notably, Former DGP Sumedh Singh Saini and former Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab Sukhbir Singh Badal have been identified as the main conspirators behind the Kotkapura shooting incident. Additionally, former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal stands accused of aiding in the execution of the alleged conspiracy. Meanwhile, the then I.G. Umranangal, D.I.G. Ferozepur Amar Singh Chahal, and S.S.P. Moga Charanjit Singh Sharma are alleged to have played pivotal roles in orchestrating the purported conspiracy.
