London-Labour MP Preet Kaur Gill has welcomed what is being described as the biggest offshore wind agreement in UK history, marking a major step in the country’s transition towards clean, secure, and affordable energy. The deal will generate enough renewable power to supply more than 12 million homes, significantly reducing the UK’s dependence on volatile international gas markets at a time of growing global uncertainty.
Highlighting the strategic importance of the move, Gill said the agreement is about “taking back control of our energy” while protecting households from fluctuating fuel prices. With energy security increasingly linked to national stability, the expansion of offshore wind is being positioned as both an economic and geopolitical necessity, reducing exposure to external shocks and price spikes driven by global gas markets.
The deal secures record levels of offshore wind capacity across all parts of the UK, from the North Sea to the Welsh coast.
