Tributes Paid to 1984 Martyrs on the Third Day of the ‘Bolega Ghanaur, Badlega Daur’ Padayatra

Ghanaur — The ‘Bolega Ghanaur, Badlega Daur’ (Ghanaur Will Speak, the Era Will Change) Padayatra, led by Youth Akali Dal President and Ghanaur constituency in-charge Sarabjit Singh Jhinjhar, entered its third day on Monday with a tribute paid to the martyrs of the June 1984 Ghallughara (Holocaust). Accompanied by Shiromani Akali Dal workers, Jhinjhar tied black ribbons around his turban—a symbol of mourning and protest—and proceeded with the march through the villages of the Ghanaur constituency while reciting the name of Waheguru.

In this poignant gesture dedicated to the martyrdom of June 1984, Jhinjhar paid homage to the martyrs of Operation Blue Star, affirming that the Sikh community would never forget the sacrifices made by those who laid down their lives. In the days ahead, participants in the march will continue to pay tribute to the martyrs by wearing black ribbons on their turbans, symbolizing both reverence and indignation.

On Monday, the march commenced from Suharo village and, on its third day, traversed through the villages of Dharamgarh, Madeyana, Sahal, Lochwa, Kuttha Kheri, Harpalpur, Madoli, and Ajror. This journey, which began on May 30, is scheduled to continue until June 8 and will cover over 100 villages across the Ghanaur region.

While passing through Suharo village, Jhinjhar raised the issue of a road that has remained in a dilapidated state since the floods of 2023. He highlighted that commuters have been facing daily hardships for a prolonged period due to the poor condition of the road, noting that the incumbent government has completely turned a blind eye to the matter.

Upon reaching Lochwa village, Jhinjhar drew the media’s attention to the deplorable condition of a local facility center, strongly condemning the persistent neglect it has suffered at the hands of successive governments. Suvidha Kendras (Facilitation Centers) were established during the tenure of the Shiromani Akali Dal government with the aim of delivering all government services—such as certificates, utility services, and other administrative necessities—directly to the doorsteps of rural communities from a single, centralized location.

“These centers were created to serve the people of Punjab with dignity and convenience. However, under the Congress and AAP governments, they have been reduced to ruins,” stated Jhinjhar. He gave his assurance that once the Shiromani Akali Dal returns to power, these Suvidha Kendras will be fully restored and reconstructed, thereby enabling the public to once again avail themselves of these essential services.

“The sole objective of this *Padayatra* (foot march) is to go from village to village, highlight the people’s grievances, and awaken a government that has fallen asleep at the wheel. Before coming to power, the AAP government made grand promises to the people of Punjab; yet today, every village tells a tale of neglect and betrayal. Roads lie in disrepair, basic infrastructure is in shambles, and the common man has been left to fend for himself. The Shiromani Akali Dal stands firmly with the people, and this march serves as a testament to our resolve: we will not rest until every issue facing every village has been resolved,” Jhinjhar affirmed.

Present on this occasion were SGPC member S. Jasmer Singh Lachhru, S. Gurpreet Singh Raju Khanna (Core Committee Member, Shiromani Akali Dal), and S.
