MLA Rana Gurjeet Singh Hails Railway Progress in Kapurthala After PM Modi’s Visit, Credits Bipartisan Efforts

Kapurthala, Punjab: Congress MLA from Kapurthala, Rana Gurjeet Singh, acknowledged significant advancements in railway infrastructure in the region following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit. While addressing developments at key stations, the MLA highlighted ongoing renovations and historical contributions to the railway network. In his remarks, Rana Gurjeet Singh noted substantial progress at Chhawani (Cantonment) Railway Station. He stated, “Chhawani Railway Station, India, has made a lot of progress. And the renovation of the railway started in the reign of Dr Manmohan Singh, when Lalu Prasad was the Rail Minister. The work kept on increasing. It’s a good thing that the Jalandhar Cantt railway station was renovated. It was needed. The Kapurthala railway station is also being renovated…”

The comments come amid visible upgrades under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. The 110-year-old Jalandhar Cantt Railway Station has undergone a major redevelopment costing around ₹99-125 crore, featuring modern amenities such as wider platforms, improved passenger facilities, lifts, escalators, air-conditioned waiting rooms, and enhanced connectivity. PM Modi was expected to inaugurate or visit the upgraded station around July 17. Kapurthala Railway Station is also part of broader renovation initiatives in Punjab, with multiple stations in the state targeted for modernisation to improve passenger experience and infrastructure. Rana Gurjeet Singh’s statement underscores a recognition of continuity in developmental works across political regimes. The MLA, known for advocating local development projects in Kapurthala, emphasised the public importance of such infrastructure upgrades, which benefit daily commuters, boost connectivity, and support economic activity in the Doaba region. This development aligns with Indian Railways’ push to transform stations into world-class facilities. Punjab has seen several stations, including those in Kapurthala and Jalandhar, included in the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme for comprehensive redevelopment.
