Majithia shares reel based on Moosewala’s banned song to attack AAP on SYL issue

Chandigarh:  Former Punjab minister and Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) leader Bikram Singh Majithia Wednesday shared a reel on X using a portion of Sidhu Moosewala’s ‘SYL’ song that was blocked for viewing in India by YouTube last year. The video sharing company had removed the song from its playlist after the Centre filed a legal complaint.

On Wednesday, the SAD (Badal) leader released the reel to purportedly criticise the AAP over the Sutlej-Yamuna Link (SYL) canal issue. The reel plays statements of AAP Chief Arvind Kejriwal and Rajya Sabha MPs Sandeep Pathak and Sushil Gupta on the SYL issue with Moosewala’s song playing in the background.

Meanwhile, no Opposition leader reached the Punjab Agricultural University campus in Ludhiana Wednesday to participate in an open debate on the SYL issue called by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.

Soon after the AAP formed the government in Punjab last year, Gupta had said, “Now we have a government in Punjab. In 2024, the AAP will form the government in Haryana too. In 2025, water will reach every farm in Haryana. This is not our promise but our guarantee.”

Balkaur Sidhu posted on X on October 5, “My son Sidhu Moosewala wrote and sang the #SYL song to raise awareness about Punjab’s rights for the new generation. The central government banned it within 24 hours, for reasons they know better. Politicians who seem to advocate for Punjab’s rights could not even speak up for an artist and his freedom to express and have a voice for his people. Forget about genuine efforts, can we expect even a discussion on Punjab’s rights from such politicians?”

Balkaur Sidhu had also posted a reel based on another Moosewala song, ‘Scapegoat’, after AAP leader Sandeep Pathak said Haryana and Punjab should get their rightful share of water.

It was the first Moosewala song to be released after the singer was murdered on May 29, 2022.
