LEADER, Sask. — The Saskatchewan RCMP have charged a second man in connection with the fire that destroyed the Halftime Huddle restaurant and sports bar in Leader nearly a year ago.Police said 28-year-old Navjot Singh of Leader was arrested on September 16, 2026, following an ongoing investigation into the suspicious fire. He was scheduled to appear in provincial court in Leader on September 17.
The blaze broke out at approximately 2:40 a.m. on October 26, 2025, at the business on First Avenue East. The building was ultimately destroyed. Investigators from the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency assisted the RCMP in determining the cause and origin of the fire, which was subsequently deemed suspicious.According to police, investigators later obtained video showing a person arriving at the business, breaking in and leaving in a dark-coloured SUV. RCMP had previously appealed to the public for information about the suspect and vehicle.
Singh faces seven charges, including arson for a fraudulent purpose, break and enter to commit arson, conspiracy to commit arson for a fraudulent purpose, counselling an offence not committed, conspiracy to steal a motor vehicle, fraud over $5,000 and arson with disregard for human life.Police also allege that Singh’s charges extend beyond the sports-bar fire. He is accused in connection with the theft and arson of a commercial vehicle in Leader in November 2025, as well as an alleged conspiracy involving the theft and arson of two commercial vehicles in June and July 2026.
The latest arrest follows the January 2026 arrest of 50-year-old Rajinderpal Basran of Calgary, who was charged in connection with the Leader business fire. Basran faces charges of arson with intent to defraud, fraud over $5,000 and arson with disregard for human life.With Singh’s arrest, two men have now been charged in connection with the fire. The RCMP investigation remains ongoing.The charges are allegations and have not been proven in court
