NEW DELHI/GURUGRAM — The alleged murder of 31-year-old Sikh man Yuvraj Singh Manchanda has drawn widespread attention after investigators arrested his former colleague Anya Vats and her associate Sanyam Sachdeva. The case has also raised questions about the handling of an unidentified body recovered in Gurugram.

SEPTEMBER 6 — DISAPPEARS AFTER LEAVING FAMILY

Yuvraj was in Delhi’s Lajpat Nagar with his sisters to shop for his wedding sherwani. At about 4:15 p.m., he reportedly left after telling his family that he had to attend an urgent meeting with a former colleague in Gurugram. He did not return home.

SEPTEMBER 6–8 — FAMILY RECEIVES MESSAGES

According to investigators, messages continued to be sent from Yuvraj’s mobile phone after his disappearance. Police allege that his phone was being used to make the family believe he was still alive, including messages suggesting that he had travelled to Bengaluru.

SEPTEMBER 10 — BODY RECOVERED

Gurugram Police recovered an unidentified male body from the Badshahpur area.According to subsequent reports, the body was not immediately connected to Yuvraj.

SEPTEMBER 11 — MISSING COMPLAINT

Delhi Police reportedly registered a missing-person complaint concerning Yuvraj.

SEPTEMBER 12 — YUVRAJ’S DETAILS UPLOADED

His photograph and identifying details were reportedly uploaded to ZIPNET, the police database used for missing persons and unidentified bodies.

SEPTEMBER 14 — UNIDENTIFIED BODY CREMATED

Reports state that the unidentified body recovered on September 10 was cremated on September 14.This has become one of the most controversial aspects of the case because Yuvraj’s family had not yet been able to establish whether the body was that of their missing son.

SEPTEMBER 16 — GURUGRAM BODY DETAILS REPORTEDLY ENTERED

According to media reports, details of the unidentified body recovered on September 10 were uploaded to ZIPNET only on September 16  six days after recovery.Questions have also been raised over the category under which the information was entered.

SEPTEMBER 18 — ARRESTS AND BREAKTHROUGH

Delhi Police reportedly traced and arrested Anya Vats and Sanyam Sachdeva in Uttarakhand.

Investigators allege that the two were involved in Yuvraj’s murder and disposal of his body. A suspected financial dispute is being examined as a possible motive.

KEY QUESTIONS REMAIN

The arrests have provided a major breakthrough, but several questions remain:

Why was the unidentified body not connected with Yuvraj sooner?
Why were the body details reportedly uploaded to ZIPNET six days after recovery?
Why was the body cremated before identification by the family?
What exactly happened to Yuvraj between his disappearance on September 6 and recovery of the body on September 10?
What is the forensic evidence regarding the reported cause of death?

Reports have cited differing information concerning the cause of death, including allegations of shooting and a post-mortem reference to drowning/asphyxia. The precise circumstances remain subject to investigation. The two arrested suspects face allegations that have not yet been finally adjudicated by a court. Meanwhile, the police handling of the unidentified body and the timeline of identification are likely to remain under close scrutiny.
