Amritsar: BJP Punjab spokesperson and Sikh thinker Prof. Sarchand Singh Khiala met Sardar Kewal Singh Dhillon, President of BJP Punjab, and held detailed discussions on key political, social and religious issues concerning the state.
During the meeting, Prof. Khiala said that Punjab’s biggest tragedy today is that decisions affecting the state are being driven from Delhi rather than in accordance with Punjab’s own priorities. He alleged that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, elected to safeguard the interests of Punjab, has failed to address the aspirations of the state’s people and is instead functioning to satisfy its political leadership.
Prof. Khiala said the discussions covered a wide range of issues, including Sikh affairs, the release of Bandi Sikhs, justice in sacrilege cases, the deteriorating law and order situation, gangsterism, the drug menace, farmers’ concerns, the future of Punjab’s youth, and the state’s overall development.
Dhillon Raises Serious Concerns Over Law and Order and the Performance of the AAP Government
Prof. Khiala said that BJP Punjab President Sardar Kewal Singh Dhillon reiterated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is firmly committed to restoring Punjab’s past glory and ensuring its all-round development. According to him, the Prime Minister wants Punjab to once again emerge as one of India’s most prosperous and progressive states. Dhillon further said that the priority accorded to Punjab by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP National president Nitin Nabin reflects the Union Government’s commitment to the state’s development, adding that more such visits are expected in the future.
Referring to the recent attack on the BJP office in Punjab, Mr Dhillon said the incident reflected what he described as the deteriorating law and order situation in the state. He added that if even the office of a national political party is not secure, serious concerns naturally arise regarding the safety of ordinary citizens.
Launching a sharp attack on the AAP government, Dhillon alleged that during the past four and a half years Punjab has become a symbol of mounting debt, administrative disorder, frequent protests and public frustration rather than development. He claimed that the promises made during the Assembly elections remain largely unfulfilled, forcing almost every section of society to protest for its legitimate rights.
He further alleged that farmers, labourers, government employees, pensioners, youth, traders and teachers are dissatisfied with the government’s performance. He claimed that employees have not received Dearness Allowance (DA), lakhs of pensioners are facing delays in pension payments, and that even the Punjab and Haryana High Court has had to intervene. Despite this, he alleged, the government continues to evade its responsibilities, compelling employees to stage protests outside the Vidhan Sabha.
Dhillon also criticised the alleged baton-charge on assistant professors, librarians, sanitation workers and farmers protesting for their legitimate demands. He said that suppressing peaceful protests instead of engaging in dialogue reflects the failure of the state government and is inconsistent with democratic principles.
He further alleged that while the Chief Minister claims that the state’s finances are sound, Punjab’s debt burden continues to increase. He also questioned the transparency in the utilisation of Central funds released for the state’s development and alleged that the government has failed to ensure effective prosecution in sacrilege cases.
Dhillon said the time for rhetoric, publicity and political theatrics is over and that the people of Punjab now expect accountability. He asserted that the Bhagwant Mann-led government must answer for both its promises and its performance.
Expressing confidence in Mission 2027, Dhillon said that a BJP government in Punjab would work towards restoring peace, strengthening the rule of law, eliminating the drug menace and gangsterism, creating new opportunities for farmers and youth, and ensuring justice and inclusive development for every section of society.
