CHANDIGARH — Punjab’s final electoral rolls were published on Monday following the completion of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), with 2,01,00,727 registered voters across the state’s 117 Assembly constituencies. According to The Tribune, the final list represents a reduction of around 6.3 per cent compared with the pre-revision electorate of 2,14,61,043 voters. <Link url={turn156604search0.url.uri} title=”Source: The Tribune”/>.
The final electoral roll includes 1,03,76,026 male voters, 97,24,195 female voters and 506 voters registered under the third-gender category. During the revision exercise, 7,97,263 new electors were enrolled. However, the additions did not fully offset the number of names removed during the process.
The draft electoral roll published in August had excluded 20,66,608 names, bringing the electorate down to 1,93,94,435. Following the claims, objections and verification process, the final list increased by 7,06,292 voters compared with the draft roll, taking the total to just over two crore. <Link url={turn156604search2.url.uri} title=”Punjab News Express report”/>.
