Punjab today stands at a crossroads where countless issues demand urgent attention, yet the disturbing reality is that not a single MLA — whether from the ruling party or the opposition — is raising a strong, consistent voice. The very people elected to safeguard Punjab’s rights seem missing from the frontlines, leaving citizens, students, farmers, and employees to fight their own battles. This silence has deepened the frustration across the state, as major concerns continue to grow without accountability.
1. Support for the Students of Panjab University, Chandigarh
One of the most pressing concerns is the continuous neglect of the students of Panjab University. These students are leading a democratic struggle to protect the university’s federal status, fee structure, and autonomy. Instead of receiving moral support from Punjab’s elected representatives, the students have faced police barricades, detentions, and pressure tactics. The ruling government shows little interest in standing with them, while the opposition only comments from the sidelines but avoids any meaningful intervention. The youth of Punjab—our future—are left to fight alone.
2. Punjab’s Due Share in the Bhakra Beas Management Board
Punjab’s long-pending demand for its rightful share and representation in the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) remains unresolved. This is a matter directly linked to the state’s water resources, electricity generation, and constitutional rights. Yet, the MLAs remain shockingly mute. Neither the ruling party nor the opposition has initiated a strong, united campaign to restore Punjab’s due authority in BBMB. In silence, Punjab continues to suffer administrative injustice and erosion of federal rights.
3. Controversy Over Road Safety Force Vehicles
The recent purchase of hundreds of vehicles for the Punjab Road Safety Force has raised more questions than answers. Citizens are demanding transparency about the procurement process, the cost, the actual need, and whether it reflects responsible spending of public money. Instead of demanding clarity, the MLAs appear uninterested. The lack of legislative scrutiny opens the door for financial mismanagement and unplanned expenditure at a time when the state is already drowning in debt.
4. Wasteful Spending on Delhi Teams and Other Unnecessary Projects
Punjab’s finances are already strained, yet money continues to be spent on unnecessary projects, including constant reliance on teams brought from Delhi for governance, publicity, and political management. Crores of rupees that could strengthen schools, hospitals, and rural development are instead wasted on non-essential expenditures. Sadly, no MLA — neither in government nor in opposition — has dared to question these financial drains. Their silence has encouraged a culture where accountability is absent and public funds are treated like party funds.
A State Waiting for Courageous Leadership
Punjab is grappling with real, urgent issues — from student rights to water disputes; from financial transparency to misuse of public money. What the state desperately needs today is a courageous, vocal, and principled leadership inside the Vidhan Sabha. Unfortunately, both the ruling and opposition MLAs have chosen silence over responsibility.
Until our elected representatives find their voice, the struggles of Punjab will continue to be carried on the shoulders of students, activists, farmers, and citizens — while those in power watch quietly from their comfortable seats.
