YUBA CITY, California — A Sacramento man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following a stabbing that injured two people during the annual Sikh parade in Yuba City, authorities said.
The Sutter County Sheriff’s Office identified the accused as 28-year-old Davinder Singh of Sacramento. He was arrested in connection with a stabbing that occurred Sunday, November 1, near the conclusion of the Sikh parade, one of the region’s major annual gatherings celebrating Sikh faith, culture and community.
According to authorities, two people were injured in the incident and taken to hospitals for treatment. One of the victims was hospitalized at UC Davis Medical Center and was reported to be in stable condition.
Singh was booked into the Sutter County Jail on multiple charges, including attempted murder, conspiracy to commit a crime, mayhem, assault with a deadly weapon and assault with a deadly weapon causing bodily injury. The charges are allegations, and the accused is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
The stabbing occurred during a weekend that also saw a separate shooting reported near the Sikh temple on Tierra Buena Road. The sheriff’s office said the shooting took place Saturday in a parking lot across from the temple, with no injuries reported.
Investigators have not established whether the shooting and stabbing incidents were connected. Authorities are continuing their investigation and working with Sikh temple leaders to identify and locate anyone else who may have been involved.
The violence has raised concerns about public safety during a major religious and cultural gathering attended by thousands of Sikh community members, families and visitors.
The sheriff’s office is expected to provide further updates as the investigation progresses.
