Lahore – In a landmark achievement for academic excellence and minority representation, Sikh student Onkar Singh has secured a joint second position in the Science Group (Boys) of the Lahore Board Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations. Singh scored an impressive 1,189 marks out of 1,200, sharing the second spot with another candidate. This marks the first time a student from the Sikh community has claimed a top position in the board’s history. Speaking about his success, the young achiever expressed deep gratitude and outlined his future plans. “My dream is to study medicine and become a doctor so I can serve humanity,” he said. Helping people through healthcare has long been his main ambition, and he is determined to keep working hard to make it a reality. Onkar also spoke candidly about broader challenges in Pakistan’s education system.
He called for meaningful reforms to raise the quality of education for all students and urged the government to create more job opportunities to tackle youth unemployment.On the issue of minority rights, Singh stated that religious minorities in Pakistan enjoy freedom and protection. He shared that he has always felt safe and supported throughout his studies. He attributed his outstanding results to years of consistent hard work, the constant prayers and encouragement of his parents, and the dedicated guidance of his teachers.Meanwhile in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa…Separately, the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Mardan released the results of its Matric Annual Examinations 2026, recording a strong overall pass percentage of 85.32 percent. In the Science Group, students from Girls Cadet College Mardan swept the top three positions.
