Tan Dhesi Engages London University Students in Discussion on Parliament’s Role in Social Policy

London ( Satnam Singh Chahal) –British Member of Parliament Tan Dhesi has engaged with university students and academics in an interactive discussion on the role of Parliament in shaping social policy, highlighting the importance of democratic institutions and public participation in addressing social challenges.

During his visit to Royal Holloway, University of London, Dhesi explored the relationship between parliamentary responsibilities and social policy with Professor Barn and students. The session included a lecture followed by an interactive question-and-answer discussion, during which students had the opportunity to raise questions and exchange views on the functioning of Parliament and its influence on society.

Dhesi described the discussion as an excellent and constructive experience, appreciating the quality of questions raised by students. He also expressed hope that the interaction would inspire some of the young participants to consider careers in public service and contribute to society through politics, policymaking and democratic institutions.

The interaction reflects the importance of connecting elected representatives with educational institutions, where students can gain a better understanding of parliamentary democracy, public accountability and the policymaking process. Such engagements can encourage young people to move beyond academic discussions and actively participate in shaping the future of their communities.

Dhesi’s interaction with the students also underlined the importance of encouraging the next generation to understand how parliamentary decisions influence social welfare, equality, education and other areas of public life.
