Chandigarh-Punjab MLA and State Congreaa President Pargat Singh has recalled how he had earlier warned that leaders would eventually begin leaving the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), comparing the party’s situation to a sinking boat from which people would jump off.
In a pointed political statement, Pargat Singh also urged Punjabis to remember how AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal had made promises of justice in the cases of sacrilege of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji to gain public support in Punjab. He alleged that several prominent Punjabi leaders, including Sucha Singh Chhotepur, Sardar H.S. Phoolka and Dr. Dharam Vira Gandhi, were used as political faces to establish the party in Punjab and secure power.
Pargat Singh further alleged that after coming to power, these leaders were not given meaningful opportunities to raise questions about justice or express their views within the party. He said the political journey of AAP in Punjab raises important questions about the role, respect and voice of Punjabi leaders in the party’s decision-making process.
His remarks have brought renewed attention to the relationship between AAP’s central leadership and its Punjab-based leaders, as well as the promises made to voters before the party came to power.
