Preet Kaur Gill MP Welcomes Restart of Jaguar Land Rover Production in the West Midlands

West Midlands, UK — Preet Kaur Gill, Member of Parliament for Birmingham Edgbaston, has welcomed the announcement that Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has restarted production at several of its key facilities, marking a major step forward for the region’s manufacturing sector and its thousands of workers.

JLR confirmed this week that its phased restart of manufacturing operations began on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at the Electric Propulsion Manufacturing Centre (EPMC) and the Battery Assembly Centre (BAC), both located in the West Midlands. These plants are central to JLR’s future in electric mobility, producing engines and battery systems for upcoming models.

Workers also began returning to the company’s stamping operations in Castle Bromwich, Halewood, and Solihull, as well as to key areas of its Solihull production plant — including the body shop, paint shop, and Logistics Operations Centre (LOC), which supplies components to JLR’s global facilities.

The resumption of operations comes after significant disruption caused by a cyber incident earlier this year. In response, the UK government announced £1.5 billion in support for automotive suppliers, ensuring stability across the manufacturing network.

As part of its recovery efforts, JLR has introduced a new financing solution designed to speed up payments to suppliers and stabilize cash flow. The company’s short-term financing scheme, developed in partnership with a banking institution, will allow qualifying suppliers to receive upfront payments — in some cases as much as 120 days earlier than the standard 60-day post-invoice payment schedule. JLR will also reimburse suppliers for financing costs incurred during the restart phase.

In a statement, Preet Kaur Gill praised JLR’s swift response and the government’s intervention:

“Jaguar Land Rover is the beating heart of the West Midlands’ industrial strength. This restart is not just good news for the company, but for every local family and supplier connected to the automotive supply chain. The government’s £1.5 billion support and JLR’s proactive supplier scheme will provide much-needed stability as our region continues to rebuild confidence and jobs in advanced manufacturing.”

Production of the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport (MLA) lines in Solihull, along with manufacturing operations in Nitra, Slovakia, are also expected to resume this week.

The restart marks a major milestone in JLR’s return to full-scale production and reinforces the West Midlands’ role as a cornerstone of the UK’s automotive and electric vehicle innovation hub.
