Brampton: A routine patrol by Peel Regional Police’s 21 Division Community Intervention and Response Team (CIRT) resulted in the arrest of two individuals and the seizure of a loaded illegal handgun at Bramalea City Centre Mall.
On Thursday, November 6, CIRT officers were conducting proactive patrols in response to ongoing community complaints about lawlessness and suspicious activity. While patrolling the mall’s parking lot, officers began investigating the occupants of a black pickup truck for potential violations of the Liquor Licence Act.
During the investigation, officers discovered a loaded prohibited firearm inside the vehicle. Both occupants were immediately taken into custody and remain held pending a bail hearing.
The male suspect, Jasdeep Seehra, 20, of Brampton, faces multiple charges, including knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm, careless storage of a firearm, failure to comply with a release order, possession of a controlled substance (cocaine), and having care or control of a motor vehicle with an open container of liquor. Authorities noted that Seehra was already out on bail at the time of his arrest under conditions prohibiting possession of any weapons or firearms.
The second accused, Guneek Jawanda, 18, also from Brampton, has been charged with knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm, careless storage of a firearm, and having care or control of a motor vehicle with an open container of liquor.
Peel Regional Police emphasized their ongoing commitment to tackling gun-related crime and ensuring public safety in the region. Residents are encouraged to report any suspicious activity to help maintain safer communities.
